About the artist

Heather Hughson is a contemporary artist whose passion for the scenery around her is vividly seen in her photographs and paintings. She often travels around North Vancouver Island capturing scenes on camera to later work on in her studio. “Of course,” Heather says, “inspiration is all around us...especially in the garden and the woods next door.” Heather has painted all her life, but it wasn’t till she come to Campbell River that painting became a passion for her. The scenery of Vancouver Island was an inspiration – from experiencing the solitude and the feeling of history of a semi-deserted fishing village to coming across a patch of wild flowers. She also discovered photography, which has become a passion, realizing that she would have to take pictures to work on later in her studio. In the last few years she has started painting en plein air and finds the challenge quite exhilerating. In 2023 she moved back to her hometown of Harleston in Norfolk, England.
